Five element colours, and how to choose them sensibly
Updated October 2026 · By Golden Lai
TL;DR
Wood is green, fire is red and purple, earth is yellow and brown, metal is white, gold and silver, and water is black and blue. Choose by the element that balances your chart, not simply by what is missing. Colour is a small support, never a substitute for a decision.

The colour table
Wood is green, and it is fed by the black and blue of water. Fire is red and purple, fed by green. Earth is yellow and brown, fed by red. Metal is white, gold and silver, fed by yellow. Water is black and blue, fed by white.
Start from what is favourable
Use the element calculator to see the balance, then ask which element helps the Day Master. That is not a count alone. A person can judge it in an innate Bazi analysis.
Supporting colours count
Wearing the colour of the element that produces the Day Master also counts as support. For a wood Day Master, black and blue are water, and water feeds wood.
A tropical wardrobe
Heat and humidity across South East Asia make black and dark navy hold warmth. Water colours can sit in a bag, a strap or a phone case. You do not need black from head to toe. White and light grey belong to metal and are often practical in this climate. Office and wedding dress codes come before any colour theory.
Do not over rely on colour
Colour does not make a decision for you, and it does not promise income or health. In a building, colour also depends on direction and the people, which is what an on site audit looks at.
Start with the five elements calculator and the Wu Xing cycles. A person judges what helps the chart in innate Bazi analysis. Colour in a building is part of custom space energy.

Questions
Do I need to change colours every day?
No. Once you know what helps the chart, lean on those colours in general and pay more attention for important occasions.
If my chart lacks fire, must I wear red?
Only if fire helps that chart. If fire is already strong, more red is not automatically better.
Black is hot in the tropics. How else can I use water colours?
Navy, accessories or small items work. You do not need black from head to toe.
