How to choose a feng shui master or Ba Zi reader
Updated October 2026 · By Golden Lai
TL;DR
Before you book a feng shui master or a Ba Zi reader, check that the scope and fee are in writing, what the report includes, which method is used, and whether you can ask follow up questions. Malaysia has no government feng shui licence. This page is a question list, not a ranking.
Why ask first
Search results are full of best of lists. A list is not a licence. What you can check is what this engagement does, what it does not do, what it costs, and when you get a conclusion.
Ten questions before you book
One, is the scope in writing before you pay. Two, is the fee a starting price or a fixed price, and is travel extra. Three, is the report spoken or written. Four, is the method form, compass, Ba Zi, or a mix. Five, are you required to buy objects to finish the consultation. Six, does health advice stay clear of replacing a doctor. Seven, are lottery or stock tips offered. This site's position is that they are not. Eight, how many follow up questions are included. Nine, which language and which time zone. Ten, does the person state where they are based, instead of implying an office in every city.
How to read reviews
A review you can trace is more useful than undated praise on a page. This site does not mark its own testimonials up as review schema. If someone has a public profile you can check, check it yourself.
How this maps to Golden
He is based in Johor Bahru. On site audits run in JB and Singapore. Other places are by arrangement. Ba Zi and I Ching can be online. Fees follow the starting prices on this site. The six step page shows how a feng shui project runs. The About page lists what he will not do.

Questions
Is there an official ranking?
No. Malaysia has no government feng shui licence and no official list of the best masters.
What if the final fee is far above the starting price?
Ask which items are add ons, such as property selection and travel. Figures on this site are starting prices, not a flat fee for every building.
Can I stay online only?
Ba Zi and I Ching, yes. A full feng shui audit needs a visit.
