How to ask the I Ching a good question

The most important part of an I Ching reading is the question: one matter, specific, with a time frame, and about your own decision. A useful question is whether partnering with this person in the next six months helps your work, not whether you will get rich. Any thing, moment or place can be the source of the hexagram. Four marks of a good question
One matter, a specific person or thing, a time frame, and a link to an action you might take. At work, change will I succeed into whether staying in this role for the next year helps you go deeper in this skill. Partnerships, property, relationships and moves work the same way: ask about your decision, not a slogan about fate. Investment questions stay on timing and risk, such as whether to expand this quarter, never on which share to buy.
Questions not to ask
Lottery numbers, stock tips, a medical diagnosis, someone else's private life, and repeating the same question until the answer changes. Those match the limits already on this site.
Where the hexagram comes from

Casting yourself versus a reading
